What is a dental implant?
An implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Titanium is biocompatible - the bone fuses around it over a period of months in a process called osseointegration. Once fully integrated, the implant is as stable as a natural tooth root. A crown is then attached via a component called an abutment, creating a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions like the real thing.
What can dental implants treat?
Single tooth implants - replacing one missing tooth with a standalone implant and crown, without touching the surrounding teeth.
Implant-supported bridges - where two or more missing teeth in a row are replaced using implants as anchors rather than filing down adjacent healthy teeth.

The surgical process explained plainly
At Dr Rez Dental we use guided surgical planning - the position of every implant is mapped in three dimensions before surgery begins using our CBCT scanner. Surgical guides, printed in our own in-house 3D printing facility, ensure each implant is placed with precision. This reduces surgical time, improves accuracy, and speeds up recovery.
Following placement, there's a healing period of three to six months while the implant fuses with the bone. A temporary restoration keeps the area looking presentable throughout. Once integration is confirmed, your permanent crown or bridge is fitted.

FAQs
How long do dental implants last?
With proper care, implants can last a lifetime. The crown on top may need replacing after ten to fifteen years, but the implant itself is designed to be permanent.
Does the implant procedure hurt?
It's performed under local anaesthetic, so the procedure itself is not painful. Some soreness and swelling in the days following surgery is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
Am I too old for implants?
Age alone is not a barrier. The key factors are bone quality, general health, and the absence of conditions that impair healing.
Can I get implants on the same day?
In selected cases, yes. Same-day full arch treatment involves fitting provisional teeth on the day of surgery. Suitability depends on bone quality and the specific case.
